Dr. Brian Ormerod

Dr. Brian Ormerod, 85, recently of Barrie but a long time resident of South Porcupine, passed away on April 19, 2024 in his sleep. 

Brian was born on July 16th, 1938, to Harry Ormerod and Elizabeth Ormerod [nee Fifield] in Nelson, England. After acquiring his A levels at Lancaster Royal Grammar School in 1957, he went on to study medicine at the University of Liverpool, graduating in 1962. He acquired his medical certification in 1964 after working at Preston Royal Infirmary where he met his soon to be wife Maureen. 

Brian and Maureen wed in 1966, shortly before immigrating to Canada. They arrived in Canada on March 26 of that year, settling first in Biggar, Saskatchewan then Bracebridge, Ontario and finally in South Porcupine, Ontario. Between these moves the pair had two children, John Robinson (Robin) and Peter Scott (Scott). 

Brian was an active member of the South Porcupine community through both his professional and personal life. As one of a handful of town doctors in South Porcupine, Brian came to know and care for many of the local residents over the years. When not working, he split his time between many endeavours including the establishment of the Kinsmen Club of the Porcupine.  His efforts were recognized by the Club when they presented him with a Life Membership in 1982. 

Brian had many interests and enthusiasms over the years, including a love of woodworking, family genealogy, and Burnley Football Club. 

Brian was predeceased by his wife, Maureen, father, Harry and mother, Elizabeth. He is lovingly remembered by his; sons John Robinson Ormerod and Peter Scott Ormerod; grandchildren Jack & Katie Barber-Ormerod, and Peter Ormerod; sister Maureen Rotherham [nee Ormerod], and her husband Bill & daughters Andrea Statter & Lynne Rotherham and their families. 

Rest in peace, “Squire” --- your love will always be with us, and your memory cherished forever.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1 pm on Monday April 29th, 2024, at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 70 Legion Dr., in South Porcupine.  Following the service there will be a luncheon at the South Porcupine Royal Canadian Legion Branch #287, 46 Legion Drive, South Porcupine.  The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Sunday April 28th, 2024, at Stinson Funeral Home, 100 Bruce Avenue, South Porcupine, ON, P0N 1H0 (705)235-2900 www.stinsonfuneralhome.net
